I spent a long time today discussing the aspects of being a Sex Positive Feminist AND Prolife. I want to quickly give my point of view on this.
Sex positive proponents can do little for the prolife cause, in my opinion. Advocating a sex-positive lifestyle, will result in more women being sex positive, and by default, will result in more abortions. Simple enough?
There is a miracle device called birth control. Condoms, IUDS, natural family planning, vasectomies. We have had these at our disposal since the dawn of time. Being sex positive does not equal more abortions. Viagra is a sex positive drug. Most conservative men take it. Does that increase abortions? No. Because you can have sex for fun. Young people can have sex for fun, with birth control. So, wrap your head around this: USE BIRTH CONTROL. BE SEX POSITIVE. And if you’re pro-life, you ought to pair up with health clinics to provide birth control any how. Controlling another person’s reproductive or denying the pleasure of sex isn’t a right any person or community has.
Leila – Are you serious? I think I can safely say that birth control as a whole, were 20th century inventions, not exactly the ‘dawn of time’. It was intended to help keep women, mostly married women, from getting pregnant every time their husbands hung their pants on the bedpost. It’s intention was to keep women from suffering, not so you could enjoy multiply orgasms.
Viagra is a drug used by older men with ED. It helps them achieve an erection, which by the way, helps their wives achieve an orgasm. Oh wait! Older people having ses? Yeah they do. I’ll let the ‘most conservative men take it’ comment pass… It’s just too ridiculous.
Young people CAN have sex for fun, and in doing so, risk pregnancy, and STD’s. How much is your orgasm worth? By saying you think prolifers should supply birth control, I assume you mean ‘FREE’? Don’t you get it free or at low cost now? Thought so!
Thank you for commenting by the way, a perfect example of the FREE SEX mentality. You just can’t make this stuff up!
Birth control pills may be fairly new, but condoms have been around for centuries. And your claim Viagra “helps their wives achieve an orgasm” is pretty odd considering most women don’t orgasm from vaginal penetration alone.
Molly – My claim? How long have you been married or in a stable relationship? I’m guessing you have no experience on this subject, or very little at best.
